Patrick J. Clawson
Clawson has over 20 years experience in running high tech companies. After
starting out in sales, Clawson was quickly promoted to sales management and
operational roles in the USA and Overseas. His experience in crafting turn-
arounds for subsidiaries as well as stand alone private and public companies is
remarkable. Prior to investing directly in companies Pat Clawson was chairman
and chief executive officer of CyberGuard Corporation. He joined the company as
president in January 2001 and immediately began to do what he had done for
other companies - turn the business around. He overhauled sales and
marketing, masterminded a new global distribution strategy and implemented
operational improvements that have resulted in record-breaking revenue growth
- 47 percent the most recent fiscal year - and two consecutive years of
profitability. He has led the company through the introduction of new
technologies into the marketplace and the integration of two key acquisitions.
Clawson has a record of revitalizing ailing businesses. He began his career with
Lanier Worldwide, Inc., broke sales records in the U.S. before moving to Australia
to take over responsibility for Lanier's Voice Products division. There, he moved
the bottom line from a $1 million annual loss on revenues of $4 million to
breakeven the first year, profitability the second year and significant growth
thereafter. Promoted to head Lanier's efforts for the voice, copy, fax and
semiconductor business for the Pacific Rim, Clawson again delivered results,
growing revenues from $9 to $15 million a year. He returned to the U.S. and took
over one of the company's ailing healthcare regions, leading the way to a
remarkable growth rate of 167 percent.
A move to Reynolds & Reynolds Healthcare Systems as senior director for the
southeastern U.S. again demonstrated Clawson’s turnaround talent.
Responsible for sales and marketing for the company’s Unix-based appliances,
he transformed the worst performing division into the top performer within a
matter of eight months, contributing to the company’s sale.
Clawson moved to MasterChart, a health information technology company, as
executive vice president of sales and marketing. The goal there was to grow the
business and then sell the company. Mission accomplished, the company was
sold to Allscripts. Clawson was named senior vice president of business
development before being quickly recruited to CyberGuard as president.
Some of the companies Clawson has been associated with are:
- Lanier Worldwide
- Reynolds and Reynolds
- MasterChart
- Allscripts (MDRX)
- CyberGuard (CGFW)
